GOL Airlines selects Rockwell Collins to provide data link system and multi-mode receiver for its Boeing 737 fleet

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Brazil's GOL Airlines has selected Rockwell Collins to provide CMU-900 Communications Management Unit (CMU) for its fleet of Boeing 737NG airplanes. In addition, the airplanes will also be equipped with the company's advanced GLU-925 Multi-Mode Receiver (MMR). Deliveries will begin in early 2010.

The CMU-900 enables state-of-the-art digital communications between aircraft systems, pilots, airlines IT infrastructure, and various operations control functions. This enhances an airline's ability to more effectively communicate and manage airline operations.

The CMU-900 also will be certified in January 2011 for the European Link 2000+ Protected Mode ATN CPDLC mandate which begins in January 2011. The CMU-900 was the first communications management unit to participate in the European Link 2000+ Controller to Pilot Data link Communications (CPDLC) trials, which validated the use of advanced digital communications for Air Traffic Control communications.

The advanced GLU-925 Multi-Mode Receiver is the first MMR certified for precision landing using either Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) or Instrument Landing Systems (ILS). The GLU-925 is the primary navigation sensor for all phases of flight, including the stringent Required Navigation Performance (RNP) requirement of 0.1 n.m.

British Airways adds extra frequency to new London City routes

British Airways is to increase peak season frequency on its new services to Majorca and Ibiza, less than a month after announcing the launch of the new routes from London City airport.

The new services to the Balearic Islands direct from the Docklands take off in May 2010.

But the destinations are already proving so popular that British Airways is now planning to increase the schedule from three to five flights a week to Palma and from three to four flights a week to Ibiza during July and August.

Passengers who book on ba.com before February 09 can also take advantage of the British Airways flight sale, with one way all-inclusive fares from £61.

Travelling direct from London City on the brand new Embraer 190 aircraft, passengers can be on the beach in the Balearics in less than three hours. British Airways also offers an exciting range of hotels in Majorca and Ibiza to suit customers' tastes and budgets.

It is the first time British Airways has operated leisure-only flights from London City but there is a growing demand for flights to the sun, particularly with customers looking for short breaks.

British Airways is gearing up to fly Team GB and Paralympics GB to Vancouver for the 21st Olympic Winter Games and Paralympic Winter Games, which start in February.
